Well, this suggestion might not be the best for everyone, particularly if you’re reselling your home – but if you’re on a budget and you want new cabinets why not try painting them over with chalkboard paint? I’ve seen it done before but it was just brought to my attention again by this post from Re-nest. Picture from The Selby.
I also like the chalkboard paint used on the backsplash, like in this other picture from Pamela’s Bed and Breakfast blog.
It’s a unique way to dress up your kitchen and it adds utility as well – how convenient to write out a recipe behind the stove before you cook so that you can remember the key steps without having to constantly check your recipe book? Then, if you’re like me, you won’t accidentally spill ingredients on your book and have to pause to clean it up to read the rest of the recipe.
But please keep in mind that not everyone will be into chalkboard paint so when you’re reselling your home you either want to clean it up really nicely or repaint.
If you have kids, they’ll love the ability to draw on the cabinets. The more mainstream use for chalkboard paint is for, you know, chalkboards and walls. A lot of retailers only sell chalkboard paint in green or black, but Hudson Paints offers it in multiple colors. I also found a spray paint version from Krylon, but only in black or green. And if you want to make your own chalkboard paint, Martha Stewart has you covered (along with a bunch of great uses for it, of course!)
